Slicehost Rails Hosting

I started using Slicehost as a Rails Hosting environment about a year ago for a project I was working on. I have to say Slicehost is awesome at what they do. The value for the cost is amazing. With your account you get a slice manager that allows you to build and configure slices on the fly. Uptime has been terrific and the support has always been excellent.

Why Slicehost?

Host Management

The slice manager is incredible. I built a new Ubuntu slice a few days ago. It was a matter of a few mouse clicks and a couple minutes later I was up and running. There are several choices of operating systems but I usualy run Ubuntu so this was right up my alley.

DNS Management

One of the things I really like is how easy it is to manage my DNS setup. It's super easy to add new zones, domains and even reverse dns. I've had a lot of hosting setups in the past and this is one of the best setups I've ever seen.

API Access

The cloud... with so much hype about cloud computing, what would a VPS hosting company be without on-demand scaling. The API gives you raw access to build and deploy new slices, manage backups and setup DNS. It's all REST based so ActiveResource makes light work of handling these interactions. With Slicehost you can develop an app with a small slice then grow it or add new slices when you're production ready. The scale your app with the API when you make it big.
